the amazon

i have just arrived in the amazon rainforest!
it was about a 2hour drive to the rainforest from the tiny airport but iot is definately worth it.

to visit a rainforest that is known to have the most amount of animal species in the world!
it is about 33°C and i have applied so much aeroguard that i am practically choking on it.

there are wildlife guards either side of me as we enter the AMAZON.

as i get deeper into the forest i can hear the chattering of the monkeys and feel the plants brushing against my face.

when i look up i can see a cheetah family perched up in the tree. the guards take me a different route for my safety.

we have been walking for about an hour now and i can hear the rushing of water.
as we get closer i can start to see the amazon river.
along the river banks i can see hundreds of crocodiles resting beside the muddy water.

as we start to head back my legs are aching.
we take a different route so i can see more wildlife.

as we come to a feild and i can see ELEPHANTS!
they walk so graciously but with such power under their steps leaving footprints behind them.
beside the elephants are a herd of zebras that are grazing on the brown crispy grass.

we walk futher back towards the jeep that we arrived in and as we start to head off i doze of to sleep.
what a day!

ok speak to u soon

FirSt sToP- aNtArTiCa!

i have just landed in antartica and the plane's

windows are all frosted over.

we all get off the plane to a small airport that has only 3 other planes (not including the one we arrived in). it is absolutely freezing... it must be under -5°C .

i quickly pull my parka on over the top of several jumpers and place my beanie over my red ears.

in the distance i can see glaciers and ice shelfs everywhere. everything is white and frozen over. i can hear the chatter of the penguins as they slide into the icy water and the sqwaking of the albatrosses as the glide over the frosty ocean. it is mag-nif-i-cent.

as i walk along the icy graound i can see a sled and a bunch of huskies inj front of it. i look at the 'driver' and he tells me to get on. i get on and away we go.

we reach a hotel in the middle of nowhere and the surroundings are absolutely beautiful.

and then as i am standing there out the front of my hotel i can see a polar bear and its cub in the distance. it is gorgeous. they have white fluffy fur covering their bodies and the cub is walking in between her mothers legs and nipping her ankles... its obviously a game.

i start towards my hotel and get inside to the heat.

ok speak to you soon

ON THE WAY!

i am in the airport going through customs.

they check my carry on bag, and put me through a metal detector.

im waiting patiently for my bag to come through and i am so excited about my holiday.

i cant wait.

i finally get my bag back and they start boarding the aeroplane.

i board the plane and wait patiently in my crammed "economy class" seat.

i have been given the opportunity to travel the world and see some of the worlds geographical sites. its amazing!!!

then they finally say that the flight is going to takeoff and the estimated time of arrival will be in 32 hours!

Greaaat! oh and i heard form my friend that the aeroplane food is fantastic (not)!

then as im sitting there the nerves start to kick in...

what if it is freezing? what happens if i didnt bring enough clothes? what happens if the polar bears hunt me down and try to eat me?!!! i am sitting here shaking and have a weird expression on my face and the person next to me is staring at me like they have dropped their guts and are trying to hide it.

i calm myself down and start reading a magazine i bought from the discount store...

the voice over orders the cabin crew to take their seats as we will be taking off immediatly.

we have started to gain speed and the next thing you know the aircraft has taken off..

im off to my first destination... ANTARTICA!

luv ya heaps...

laura the explorer..
